Trapped in Hospital San Antonio
My sister was trapped in Hospital San Antonio and forced to pay $100,000
It could happen to anyone but in this case it happened to my sister
Recently my sister Jane and her husband of Lafayette, LA came to Mexico to attend their
daughter’s wedding. My sister encountered chest pains and was taken to Hospital San
Antonio by the Red Cross. The doctors said she needed surgery and required a $30,000
payment up front which max’d out the their credit cards. Then they were told that she needed
a second operation and that an additional $30,000 had to be paid. At this point extended
family was contacted and soon those cards were also max’d out.
Meanwhile the bills kept mounting and a nationwide “GoFundMe” campaign was begun. As
the surgical a care treatment costs continued to rise, "..they were threatening to put her
literally on the streets if she did not pay up front. They threatened to move her to the IMSS
hospital in Guadalajara which made no sense because IMSS is for workers. When we asked
them for clarification the hospital staff then changed their tune and said that they meant
Hospital Civil in Guadalajara. The hospital senior staff came to visit her in her room which was
filthy and demanded money up front and threatened to dump her into Hospital Civil in
Guadalajara if she did not pay.
Long story short, eventually the bills were over $107,000 and the couple couldn’t get out of
the hospital without payment in full. They threatened to call the US embassy and the hospital
staff got scared and backed off. Then as soon as my sister got back to her home in the USA
she checked with her local doctors and they said that there was no need for any surgery. We
then contacted our a specialist in Texas who also confirmed that there was no need for any
surgery.
I had my lawyer contact Hospital San Antonio and ask from a medical report to substantiate
the medical need for this surgery. They refused and after months and months of asking them
they still have refused. In fact they threatened to sue me and my sister for dano moral if I tell
anyone about this. What does that even mean? I dont care if they sue me. I feel a need to
warn everyone about Jane's horrible experience in Hospital San Antonio. Go ahead and sue
me is what I say. If my post can help just one person then it is worth it.
I had an appointment with a general surgeon then I show up, the lady at the front desk was more interesting in her coffee and donuts then answer any questions, the staff sent me next door, next door sent me to next door, next door sent us to a hospital in Ajijic, then the staff at Ajijic's hospital called the doctor , he said I'm here already we drove back to San Antonio hospital after a wild goose chase, we came back an the lady at the front desk goes oh yeah he is here, really?. Then I went for and ultrasound I gave them my phone # and email twice they told me in the afternoon, then nothing I went this afternoon and the front desk told me we send it, but we can resent it again, well there is nothing either in my email or phone number, so my fellow ex-pats stay away from this so called hospital san Antonio.
