Don't Recommend Hospital San Antonio !
I happened to be the first surgery ever at this hospital. If you do not have insurance, I would never recommend using Hospital San Antonio del Lago de Chapala.
I had an excellent doctor from Guadalajara and he thought it best to have the surgery at this new hospital and told me the cost would be about $1500 dollars U.S. I was weighing the idea to go to the U.S. as I have insurance there and it would only be the cost of an airline ticket.
I made the wrong decision. After a successful surgery I was astounded when I got the bill of $4700 for a 6 hour stay there. The Doctor was also surprised and embarrassed and on my behalf he went to the Manager of the hospital to try and correct the overcharging without any success.
In fact, since he had made this complaint, he lost his right to do surgery there. The manager's response to him was "These Gringos have a lot of money and he would not reduce the charges. I later found out that in Guadalajara the cost of this procedure would have been 1/3 the cost of what they charged me there. In fact, the follow up procedure of removing the stent in my Kidney was a total of $250 in Guadalajara....WARNING!!! Unless you are one of those Rich Gringos that the manager stated "They don't care about the money or if you have insurance...Do not use this facility. Be smart and look to Guadalajara.
I would describe my time in in Hospital San Antonio in Riberas as more than a nightmare, it is the most traumatic thing I have experienced in my entire life.
