Scams in Lake Chapala Healthcare

 A California woman visiting Mexico had to have two emergency heart surgeries. Now Hospital San Antonio headed by Sr. Calderon won’t release her until she pays a $40,000 bill. U.S. officials have warned travelers about hospital scams in Mexico. 

A representative of the patient reached out to Hospital San Antonio in Lake Chapala and no  one at the hospital spoke enough English to answer any questions.

The patient was visiting friends in Ajijic when she began having trouble breathing. When she collapsed and lost consciousness on Monday Dec 31  she was transported to Hospital San Antonio in Lake Chapala

The patient  was treated for an arterial blockage  in her heart but not before the family was forced by the hospital to pay $25,000 upfront. After the first operation, another blockage was discovered. Again, the hospital demanded a $30,000 payment before operating.

Hospital administrators demanded $40,000 upfront on Wednesday before agreeing to release here. If the funds weren’t found, administrators threatened to call authorities and have the patient arrested.

    Hospital San Antonio billed my insurance for services and medications that we never provided to me. When I called them to question the bill they threatened to have me arrested in Chapala. My insurance company is investigating them

DO NOT RECOMMEND - San Antonia Hospital

  I went to Hospital San Antonio in 2 weeks ago for a minor stomach infection. Horrible place. The staff were using their cell phones without gloves and then touching the needles used to draw blood for lab exams. Very disturbing practices here. We were told by phone it would be like 3 to 4 hundred dollars, The cost ended up over $3,500 USD for a stomach infection. They ordered a tons of useless tests and made me wait in the ER for 8 hours...a simple dose of Cipro is all I needed . They made me get a CT Scan!!! For what? All I needed was some Cipro. Read the reviews on Google, this place is a scam.  Not recommended. Then when I asked them to explain the bill to me and why it was so high for useless tests they brought out some young doctor to take the heat.
